Brookgreen Inspires: Women Create presents the beauty and power of Brookgreen Gardens and its collections as seen through the eyes of sculptors, painters, and photographers who are members of the South Carolina Chapter of the National Association of Women Artists.
Their interpretations of Brookgreen’s landscapes, sculptures, structures, animals, and other inspirational views are shown in about 70 artworks juried for this exhibit.
The National Association of Women Artists was founded in 1889 to gain recognition for professional women artists in an era when that field was strongly male-oriented. It sponsors exhibitions, awards, and prizes, and organizes lectures and special events. Brookgreen’s founder, Anna Hyatt Huntington, and many of the women artists in Brookgreen’s collection were and are members.
