
This talk will provide a brief overview of carnivory in plants and how it works in nature. Then, we will examine local carnivorous plants and their conservation status. Finally, you will learn how to successfully grow and propagate these fascinating plants in a confined bog garden or your own.
About the Speaker:
James O. Luken received a Ph.D. in Botany from Duke University in 1984. After working in higher education for 36 years, he retired and now splits his time between growing carnivorous plants and taking people on chartered fishing/nature tours of Grand Strand waterways. He is involved with the Friends of Lewis Ocean Bay, an effort to educate everyone about the unique and outstanding natural systems and rare plants found at Lewis Ocean Bay Heritage Preserve.
