This guide covers 81 species, from edible and medicinal mushrooms to artisanal finds, as well as a few that are best avoided. With nearly 60,000 copies sold, it ranks in the top 5% of all printed books, and expert forager Sam Thayer calls it simply “excellent.”

Reviewers praise Frank’s humor, approachable language, memorable safety rhymes, and captivating essays on the foraging lifestyle. The book also includes recipes, stunning photos, and tips to safely begin your own mushroom-foraging adventures.

About the Speaker:

In his 20’s Frank Hyman was a very successful college dropout. He decided to forgo a career and instead get paid for his hobbies. Foraging mushrooms is the ninth hobby that he’s ramped up into a profession (the other eight avocations being—horticulture, carpentry, stone masonry, sculpture, design, politics, photography and writing). Frank wrote the foraging columns in Paleo, Urban Farm and Hobby Farms magazines. Has taught foraging to over 1000 farmers, arborists, chefs and members of the myco-curious public. Made $200/hour selling mushrooms to chefs (before the pandemic!). He’s the author of How to Forage for Mushrooms Without Dying: An Absolute Beginner’s Guide which has sold almost 60,000 copies.
