This event will introduce three basic methods of growing mushrooms including bucket cultivation, log inoculation, and wood chip cultivation. In addition to the basic process behind each of these methods, we will also discuss the materials and supplies needed for at-home mushroom cultivation as well as where to source these supplies. Time-permitting, we will also discuss basic mycology and the health benefits of mushrooms.   

About the Speaker: 

Sam Haab is the Community Garden Manager at the Charleston Parks Conservancy. Originally from Vermont, she has a degree in Conservation Biology from St. Lawrence University where she studied pollinators and sustainable food systems. Prior to joining the Conservancy in 2021, she spent years doing seasonal conservation work in Vermont, Maine, and Hawai'i. In her role at the Charleston Parks Conservancy, Sam manages their three community gardens, new food forest, apiary, and mushroom cultivation program.
