The ancient art of blacksmithing is still practiced today. Join blacksmiths Pat and Ed as they demonstrate their talents by keeping an old art alive. The gates in our Palmetto Garden were designed by the famous Charleston blacksmith Philip Simmons, who mentored the South Carolina Artist Blacksmith Association at its start in 1994. Walter Hill then created the gates.

About the Philip Simmons Artist Blacksmith Guild

PSABG is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that was started in 1994 in the State of South Carolina with about 30 charter members.  It was first known as the South Carolina Artist Blacksmith Association (SCABA).  In the beginning, Philip Simmons, the "Charleston Blacksmith" mentored our organization and in 1998 the name was changed to honor him while he was still alive.   We now have around 200 members located in the State and a few members from surrounding states. We are organized exclusively for educational purposes to encourage and facilitate the training of blacksmiths, expose the blacksmith craft to the general public, and serve as a center of information about blacksmithing.
