Acer saccharum subsp. floridanum
Acer saccharum subsp. floridanum is synonymous with Acer barbatum and Acer floridanum.
It is a deciduous tree that typically grows to about twenty to twenty five feet tall, but there are specimens that have grown far beyond this height, even reaching greater than a hundred feet tall. It is hardy in USDA Zones 6 - 9. It is best planted in full sun to part shade. It naturally grows as an understory tree.
Acer saccharum subsp. floridanum typically has attractive fall color. It is also reported to be more heat tolerant and smaller in all ways than Acer saccharum.
