Ipomoea batatas 'Balsolabart' (SolarPower™ Black Heart) originated as part of a planned breeding program in California.

It has been our experience that Ipomoea batatas 'Balsolabart' (SolarPower™ Black Heart) performs well in our area. We observed color on the leaves fading while in full sun conditions and believe that being planted in a little shade will likely prevent this in the future. It was also observed to have some problems with caterpillars that would eat the leaves.
